Webb Society AGM - 2000

2000 May 13: The annual meeting of the Webb Society was held at the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory - nr Wantage - Oxford  with ~80 deepsky observers both members and visitors attending in the pleasant lecture facilities. After a short AGM chaired by President Bob Argyle he presented the Annual Webb Awards to Yann Pothier  [France] for his contribution to deepsky observation and to Adrian Catterall for his deepsky imaging. Tom Boles then gave an excellent illustrated lecture on The Galaxy Unveiled followed by Yann Pothier, founder of Ciel Extreme, on Deepsky Observing in France.  After the lunch break Myfanwy Bryce spoke of her professional work unravelling the mystery of Planetary Nebulae. In final lecture after the tea break Allan Chapman was again in cracking form this time on The Revd Thomas William Webb - Observer & Pioneer Astronomical Communicator. Stands by Earth & Sky Books, Venturescopes , Nightlife and the Webb Society's own publications were well supported.  The lunch break even allowed Venturescope to demonstrate the Coronado Ha filterscope on the sun soaked terrace.  Maurice Gavin
