wpo - session spectra - 1999 August 16

sxccd2.jpgAn f/2 85mm fl lens coupled to an SX-M CCD rides piggy-back on the LX200. It gives a 4deg x 3deg field-of-view on the SX framestore monitor to ~mag12 in 10s exposure with virtually instant download. By slewing the 'scope remotely via LXCON software, stars centred within the box on the monitor are also recorded on a second CCD [PC displayed] at the main telescope's focal plane.

Electronic finder: An experimental session curtailed by increasing haze and heavy dew - hence the unusually longish exposures as the session progressed.

These are marked 1 - 5 on the Megastar chart with their sample spectra below. The electronic finder is an aid to remote pointing of a new spectrograph under test - a range of old Pentax screw lenses [17mm fl - 300mm fl] can be exchanged to give wideangle or telescopic views on the 'finder'.

The spectra of the K through to M type stars show progressive changes which is much less obvious for the 'early' A - B type stars in low spectral resolution. The exposure is shown in seconds. The star with H-alpha emission is the gamma Cas type variable V1339 Aql [B2.5IVe]. The telluric 'A' line at 7594A is marked.
